Just two minutes on foot from Oideya, inside the Mitsutsuya Shotengai shopping arcade, sits "Shunkashuutou" β a seafood izakaya that barely appears in any travel guide, yet every local in the neighborhood knows it by name. If you're looking for an authentic Osaka dining experience without the tourist crowds, this is it.
What Kind of Place Is It?
Shunkashuutou has around 50 seats split between a counter and tables. The master heads to the market each morning to hand-pick the freshest fish of the day, and the first thing you do when you arrive is scan the handwritten blackboard to see what's available. That daily ritual is half the fun.
What to Order
After several visits, here are the dishes we keep coming back to:
Sashimi Platter (market price)
The chef's daily selection of sashimi β whatever looked best at the market that morning. Trust the master's eye and order this without hesitation.
Grilled Salted Mackerel
Crispy skin, moist flesh, served with freshly grated daikon. Simple and perfect.
- Hours: 17:00β23:00 (last order 22:30)
- Closed: Mondays
- Distance from Oideya: approx. 2 min walk
- Reservation: walk-ins welcome, but weekends fill up fast
π Getting There
Located in Yodogawa-ku, Osaka, a 3-minute walk from Kanzakigawa Station. No English menu, but the staff are friendly and will do their best to help β and honestly, the language barrier becomes a great travel memory.
Great for International Guests
There's no English menu, but the picture-style Japanese menu and the master's enthusiastic gestures make ordering a breeze. Many of our international guests tell us it was their favourite meal in Osaka β not just for the food, but for the warmth of the experience.
If you want to taste the real Osaka β the kind that doesn't show up in Instagram feeds β put Shunkashuutou at the top of your list.
